The four big People + Culture themes for 2024

If you’re anything like us, you’ve been swimming in articles, podcasts and webinars about the big trends of 2024. We find this stuff pretty exciting so welcome to the first of our TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read) series where we pull together our thoughts on the four big people and culture trends, issues and insights for 2024.

🌱 The new leadership landscape

The new generation of leaders are here and that generational power balance is shifting. Expectations of both employees and leaders are changing, and we’re seeing an evolving set of leadership priorities. Setting clear expectations of leaders is crucial. To set them up for success, invest in their development with a focus on the ability to lead through change, and involve them in decision making which is informed by data.

🤝 Mutual trust and transparency

Confidence in leadership is a leading driver of engagement but the data out of Culture Amp tells us that favorability is declining over time. At a time when employees are increasingly looking for a strongly values based perspective from their workplaces, the past 18 months has been a year where trust was eroded through cost saving, job cuts and closed communication.

Building two way trust between employees and employers has never been more important. Leaning into transparent two way communication, open decision making and effective change management will be key.

🎉 Culture and connection in a hybrid world

This is NOT getting any easier. We’re seeing a real rise in return to office mandates but are we really thinking about the purpose and value of time in the office?

If you want to truly nail hybrid work, it’s vital to understand the role of your physical workplace and create experiences that justify the commute. If you want employees to come in, make it worthwhile and make it seamless! The aim of the game is to inspire more FOMO and rely less on compliance.

🤖 AI, AI, AI

We’ve heard so much about it, and we know it’s going to transform the way we work. But how do we make sure this happens in the most effective way?

Lean in to how employees and organisations can do more in less time. Educate them on the tools AND the importance of the human element, and the outcomes they can facilitate together.
